Chemical and Physical Change - Smart Start

We have explored chemical and physical properties of matter.

Now let's look at Chemical and Physical Changes in matter.

Watch the clip  (click on the picture) about chemical and physical change.  Pay special attention to the difference between the two.

The user name and password is singapor.

Follow that with the States of Matter Clip -

We'll be exploring change of state as a physical change today.

After you hear Tim and Moby explain the states of matter - Click HERE to play a bit with changing state.

LFM

LFM (Learning From Mistakes)- Your unit papers are graded and we will be going over them in detail next science block.   A number of students have asked me about retakes.

From now on, retaking a summative exam is not possible, however, we encourage you to fill out an LFM on every assessment.

By doing so, it will not increase the grade of the individual assignment, but will be noted (if done correctly) and may be reflected on your final semester grade.

You can find the LFM here.

SUBMARINE SUCCESS!

animated-submarine-image-0005SUBMARINE SUCCESS!
Great work designing and building your submarines. It's been fun watching the process and to see everyone persevere through their failures - and even having a good time doing it.
I love epic fails.. they lead to great learning.  Well done, well done,  well done!

Reminders:
The final report is due next block.  It is all on the rubric which we went over in class,

You can either do this either on paper on via video but either way the required information is the same -
  • If you choose to draw diagrams, make sure you take a picture of the diagrams, a picture of your submarine and post it on your blog.
  • In your blog post you need to have a full explanation of what is happening with your submarine in all three positions - positive, neutral, and negative.  Your diagrams should be neat and clearly labeled.  Your explanation should include ballast, density, mass, volume.
  • If you choose to do a video, make sure you voiceover with all of the pertinent information.  A detailed list of vocabulary to include can be found in the homework calendar.
